Welcome to Season 2 of Behind the Blocks, the series where we use quilt blocks to build our skills as quilters. Season 2 is about blocks made up of half-square triangles and flying geese.

Each month I will publish a video with step-by-step instructions on how to make a new block and a free PDF pattern to accompany the video. There will be two bonus videos on finishing your quilt top and ideas on how to quilt it.

There is a free worksheet with all the information and fabric requirements and a table of cutting instructions to make the full sampler quilt. You can sign up to download this below.

Fabric Requirements

Fabric Colour Yardage Notes
A Garnet 1/2 yard  
B Harbor 2/3 yard  
C Asparagus 1/2 yard  
D Sunny 1/3 yard
Background Bone 1 & 1/2 yards  
Sashings and Borders Bone 1 yard  
Border 2 Harbor 3/4 yard  
Backing   3 & 3/4 yards If you buy an extra wide backing fabric (108″), you only need 2 yards of fabric.
Wadding/Batting   Twin-sized pack or 2 yards of 90″ or wider If you are buying batting by the yard, you can buy 90”, 96”, 105” or 120” in most brands. You need enough yardage to cover the width of the quilt, in this case, 58”, which is 2 yards.
Binding   1/2 yard
